Using public transport in Malaysia is not a difficult task if you successfully plan your journey prior to travel. The situation is the same when you want to travel with private vehicle, some basic information that you need to know are distance between you and your destination, estimated travel time and fuel expenses.

As for traveling with public transport, prior to travel, you may have to know the suitable route, bus/train number and also amount of fares needed. In this post, we will provide you with a simple tutorial on how to plan your journey using internet.

Internet is accessible almost anywhere nowadays.

We can access the internet via our laptops, tablets, or even smartphones.

Tutorial #1 : Using Journey Planner Website
Before planning your journey, it is suggested that you understand the rail route map in Klang Valley. You can refer to our previous post here to learn about rail route map in Klang Valley.

To those who wish to travel using PT provided by RapidKL (AMG, KLJ, Monorail, RapidkL Buses), you can refer to this website, provided by RapidKL operator. To start planning your journey, first, enter your current and desired location on "Journey Planner" column:

You can also specify you preferred mode of travel either using bus or rail.

When you key in location name, the website will automatically provide you with a list nearest location accessible with public transport. For example when you key in Bukit Bintang, it will show you Bukit Bintang monorail station, bus stop at KL Pavilion and HSBC Bukit Bintang. You are free to choose any of the transport mode.

Let's say if you want to go to KLCC by using rail. Click "Find" button and the website will show you the route, and fares.

There are also other alternative routes that you can follow suggested by the website.

You can also view the route in GIS map. Simply click on button "Show Map":

Apart from that, you can also know the up-to-date status of operation of each rail line and bus.

For those who intends to use ERL (Refer this map), you can obtain travel information from this website. It provides operation hours, train frequency, journey time and fares.

For KTM users, you can simply plan your journey in their website. The procedure is just the same as LRT, key in the current location and destination, and the website will tell you the fares, journey time and also points of interest:

Tutorial #2 : Using Mobile Applications

For those who owns a smartphone, you can as well plan your journey. There are various mobile applications that provide user opportunity to plan their journey using public transport. One of them is the official RapidKL Journey Planner by ePetrol. The procedure of finding the route is the same as previous section, except that you are using smartphones rather than computer/laptops.
